High Liner Foods is expanding its Sea Cuisine brand with the rollout of frozen Skillet Meals, aiming to increase seafood options in a category traditionally dominated by chicken and beef.
The new meal range is now available at select grocery stores across the US and features complete, one-pan seafood meals that can be prepared in approximately 15 minutes. The launch reflects growing consumer demand for convenient, high-protein meal solutions that require minimal preparation.
“Seafood has long been underrepresented in the frozen meals aisle,” said Anthony Rasetta, Chief Commercial Officer, High Liner Foods. “Sea Cuisine Skillet Meals broaden those options and make it easier than ever to enjoy restaurant-quality seafood meals at home. With today’s consumers looking for options that taste great, come together quickly, and are high in protein, this innovative lineup offers all the quality and convenience they want with none of the wait.”
The product line, first unveiled at Seafood Expo North America earlier this year, includes three globally inspired recipes made with responsibly sourced seafood and designed as complete meal solutions.
The Mediterranean-Style Sole Pasta combines wild-caught sole with penne pasta, roasted peppers and diced tomatoes in a lemon caper sauce and provides 22 grams of protein per serving. The Thai Red Curry Salmon features wild-caught salmon with brown rice, snap peas, carrots and red bell peppers in a Thai red curry sauce, delivering 19 grams of protein per serving. The Chili Garlic Shrimp meal pairs shrimp with chow mein noodles, broccoli, carrots and peppers in a chili garlic sauce and contains 15 grams of protein per serving.
High Liner Foods said the new range addresses a gap in the frozen meal category, where seafood remains relatively uncommon despite consumer interest in greater variety. According to the company, nearly two-thirds of frozen meal consumers report being only somewhat satisfied with current offerings, while chicken and beef account for almost 70% of the top 300 multi-serve frozen meal products.
The company also cited consumer research indicating that 45% of shoppers prefer meals requiring no preparation that can be cooked in a single pan, 75% want meals ready in 15 minutes or less, and 41% are seeking to increase their protein intake.
Product testing also suggested strong consumer acceptance, with more than 87% of participants saying the meals exceeded their expectations and 91% reporting that they were easy to prepare.
