Pramodhya (Pramo) Loku Gamage of Seafrigo Group has been named Rising Star of the Year at the annual FPC Fresh Produce Awards, recognizing his rapid career progression, leadership potential and contribution to the company’s finance operations.
Gamage received the award at a ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London, attended by 30 colleagues and customers from across the PML Seafrigo business, including representatives from management, sales, human resources, finance, warehouse and packing, and freight forwarding.
Gamage joined PML Seafrigo 20 months ago as an Accounts Assistant and has since advanced to Accounts Payable Supervisor, where he manages a team of three. His responsibilities include invoice processing, supplier management and reconciliations, as well as supporting broader improvements within the finance department.
Alongside his full-time role, Gamage completed his ACCA qualification. He said the opportunity to combine professional qualifications with practical industry experience was one of the factors that attracted him to Seafrigo.
His responsibilities have extended beyond his own professional development. Gamage has supported the Seafrigo Ireland accounts, providing financial support in a demanding operational environment. He also contributes to staff training, sharing his knowledge with colleagues and helping newer members of the team build confidence in their roles.
Colleagues have recognized Gamage for his hands-on approach, attention to detail and willingness to take on challenges. He has also sought opportunities to improve and automate processes within the finance department, with the aim of increasing efficiency and reducing manual workloads.
The FPC Fresh Produce Awards judges described Gamage as someone who is “making a meaningful difference in the workplace while showing the qualities of a future leader.”
Commenting on the award, Gamage said: “I’m incredibly proud to receive this award. The last 20 months at PML Seafrigo have been an amazing journey for me, and I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the support and encouragement of the people around me. To have my colleagues there cheering me on made the evening even more special. I’m excited to keep learning, developing and contributing to the team.”
Gamage plans to continue developing his career within Seafrigo, broaden his knowledge across the finance function and grow alongside his team.
PML Seafrigo UK CEO Sean Smith said: “Pramo’s achievement is a fantastic reflection of the commitment, ambition and talent he has demonstrated since joining Seafrigo. His progression from Accounts Assistant to Accounts Payable Supervisor in such a short period is testament to his hard work and determination. Just as importantly, he is someone who actively supports those around him and is always looking for ways to improve how we work. We are incredibly proud to see his contribution recognised by the wider fresh produce industry.”
