Danish food ingredients maker Chr Hansen said it’s seen a short-term boost in demand, as consumers chose frozen pizzas in wake of the lockdown and restaurant closures.
Chr Hansen, which sells its enzymes and bacteria, used in products like dairy, dietary supplements, and wine, to some of the world’s largest food manufacturers, such as Nestle and Danone, reported growth above expectations for its second quarter and reconfirmed its full-year sales outlook.
There has been a spike in demand for the company’s enzymes used in cheese for frozen pizzas in the United States. “American consumers are filling their freezers with frozen pizzas to make it through this period”, Chief Financial Officer Soren Westh Lonning told Reuters. “We see that there is a greater interest from our customers and the end-users around solutions which strengthen the immune defense”, he added, referring to the rising demand for probiotics used in yogurt and dietary supplements seen by the company.
