According to recent studies, more than 80 percent of all fruit and vegetables which are cultivated conventionally show pesticide residues. A number of tools and methods are used for the analysis of pesticide residues. Their practicability, cost efficiency and precision are crucial factors to ensure consumer safety. The newest findings in the field will be presented on the 7th International Fresenius Conference “Pesticide Residues in Food” from 15 to 16 May 2013 in Düsseldorf (Germany). The conference will introduce new analytical methods such as the use of the QuEChERS (“Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe”) method for the analysis of pesticide residues in high lipid content commodities of plant origin or the application of the Swedish ethyl acetate method (SweEt). The topic section “Monitoring” deals with the impacts of EU monitoring on pesticide residues analysis of exported goods, pesticide monitoring in Germany and FVO controls in and outside the European Union. Another topic area will focus on single tools and other technical aspects like the analytical performance of GC-MS/MS systems in comparison with classical GC-MS/MS analysis.
