David Enters Frozen Dessert Market With High-Protein Ice Cream Line

David, the food company known for its high protein-per-calorie bars, has expanded into frozen desserts with the launch of David Frozen Dessert, a line of high-protein ice cream pints designed to deliver traditional taste and texture with improved nutritional efficiency.

The new product line, which launched online on June 1, sold out within 28 minutes, underscoring strong early consumer demand for high-protein, lower-calorie dessert alternatives. The company will also open a summer ice cream shop in New York City on June 5 to support the rollout and showcase the new offerings.

David Frozen Dessert is built around the same formulation philosophy as the company’s protein bars, emphasizing high protein content, reduced calories and low sugar without compromising on sensory experience. Each pint contains 30g of protein and ranges from 210 to 260 calories, with less than 1g to 2g of sugar per container.

The initial lineup includes four flavors: Cookie Dough, Triple Peanut Butter, Triple Chocolate and Vanilla Bean. The Cookie Dough flavor features a slow-churned vanilla base with cookie dough pieces, chocolate flakes and chocolate swirls, delivering 30g of protein, 260 calories and 2g of sugar per pint. Triple Peanut Butter combines a peanut butter base with peanut butter flakes and ribbons, also providing 30g of protein, 260 calories and 2g of sugar per pint. Triple Chocolate features a rich chocolate base with chocolate inclusions and swirls, matching the same protein, calorie and sugar profile. Vanilla Bean offers a simpler profile with vanilla bean specks, delivering 30g of protein, 210 calories and less than 1g of sugar per pint.

The company said the product line is intended to apply nutritional engineering principles to indulgent categories, creating desserts that balance taste, texture and macro-nutrient efficiency.

Founded by Peter Rahal, David has built its brand around the concept of maximizing protein efficiency per calorie, combining food formulation with a minimalist design approach. The company said the frozen dessert expansion represents a natural extension of its existing product strategy into new consumption occasions, particularly in the growing high-protein snacking and dessert segments.
