Ajinomoto Expands Frozen Dumpling Line as Demand for Convenient Global Flavors Grows

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. is expanding its frozen dumpling portfolio in the US with new products aimed at consumers seeking faster meal solutions that still deliver restaurant-style flavor, as demand grows for globally inspired convenience foods.

The company, part of the broader Ajinomoto Group, has introduced Sweet & Spicy Chili Saucy Pork & Chicken Gyoza and Japanese Jumbo Chicken Shumai, which are now available at Albertsons Companies and Ahold Delhaize, with additional distribution planned for later in the summer.

The launches build on the momentum of Ajinomoto’s 2025 rollout of its Hane-Style Gyoza product, which the company describes as Japan’s No. 1 gyoza and a flagship item in its US expansion strategy. The brand continues to position its offerings around traditional Japanese flavor profiles combined with convenience-oriented preparation methods.

The Sweet & Spicy Chili Saucy Pork & Chicken Gyoza features pork and chicken dumplings infused with ginger and paired with a garlic-based sweet and spicy chili sauce. The product is designed to align with the growing “swicy” flavor trend, combining sweetness with heat. The gyoza can be prepared in under seven minutes through steaming or in under three minutes in a microwave, and each 10-ounce package contains 10 dumplings and 17 grams of protein.

The company also launched Japanese Jumbo Chicken Shumai, a larger-format dumpling featuring chicken, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Each piece is designed to be consumed in two to three bites and contains 20 grams of protein. Preparation options include microwave cooking in about three minutes, air frying in roughly nine minutes or steaming in 17 minutes.

Dave Gardner said: “Following the strong response to our U.S. launch of Hane-Style Gyoza, we are expanding the line with two new offerings that deliver new eating experiences aligned with consumer preference. One brings a bolder flavor profile, and the other offers a more convenient take on a classic favorite. Together, they reflect our focus on giving consumers high-quality, quick-cooking options with authentic flavor and continuing to build the category in a thoughtful way.”

Ajinomoto, founded in 1908 and known globally for its discovery of umami, continues to expand its frozen food portfolio as the category grows, positioning its products at the intersection of convenience, global flavors and at-home dining.
