CLdN Expands Irish Trade Routes With New Weekly Container Shipping Service

In a move that shows its growing footprint in European freight logistics, CLdN announced the launch of a new weekly container shipping service connecting Zeebrugge, Cork, and Dublin.

The Luxembourg-based shipping company has chartered the M/V JSP Rover, an 800 TEU lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) cargo vessel, to operate the route, offering container transport from its Albert II terminal in Zeebrugge to the two key Irish ports.

The initiative marks a strategic extension of CLdN’s operations in Ireland and supports the company’s efforts to optimize its roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) fleet. By integrating a dedicated LoLo service, the company aims to enhance operational flexibility and expand the range of shipping options available to its customers moving freight between mainland Europe and the Republic of Ireland.

The addition of LoLo capacity in Cork reflects a deliberate expansion of CLdN’s multimodal strategy, which has already seen success in Rotterdam, where the company has been offering a combination of LoLo and RoRo services since last year. The Zeebrugge-Ireland route will now feature 14 weekly return sailings, combining this new container service with four existing RoRo sailings—two to Cork and two to Dublin.

CLdN’s new service is set to launch on Saturday, May 10, and comes in response to rising demand for efficient freight movement between Ireland and continental Europe. It also represents another step in the company’s broader LoLo roadmap, which includes a fleet expansion of newly built container vessels scheduled to enter service beginning in January 2027.

Since entering the Irish market in 1999, CLdN has steadily expanded its operations, culminating in last year’s launch of additional services between its Rotterdam Distriport terminal and Dublin. The company now transports more than 500,000 cargo units annually to and from the Republic of Ireland, a volume that positions it as the leading ferry freight operator on routes linking Ireland with both mainland Europe and Great Britain.
