Koelnmesse, IFEMA Forge Alliance to Launch Anuga Select Ibérica

Koelnmesse, the organizer of Anuga, the world’s largest food and beverage trade fair, is joining forces with IFEMA Madrid, one of Europe’s leading exhibition centers, in a bid to reinforce the Spanish and broader Iberian food market.

The collaboration will debut a new event, Anuga Select Ibérica, scheduled to take place in Madrid from February 16 to 18, 2027. The fair is designed to unite domestic and international industry players, expand trade opportunities, and elevate Spain’s role as a hub for the global food industry.

Anuga Select Ibérica represents the evolution and integration of two well-established IFEMA Madrid trade fairs. Meat Attraction, an international showcase for the entire meat industry value chain, focuses on production, export, and technologies. InterSICOP, now rebranded as Bake & Ice Attraction, highlights the bakery, confectionery, ice cream, and coffee sectors, bringing together producers, suppliers, and experts to showcase market trends, machinery, ingredients, and an extensive program of seminars, competitions, and presentations.

Both events will now operate under the Anuga banner, the world’s largest marketplace for the food and beverage sector. The new format is intended to create a central industry platform in Spain, serving the fast-growing Iberian market while extending its reach to international players. The offering will expand beyond the original segments to incorporate additional food and beverage categories, aiming to draw new participants and audiences.

By focusing on Spain and Portugal as regional growth engines, the initiative underscores the Iberian Peninsula’s importance as a crossroads for trade between Europe, Latin America, and North Africa. Anuga Select Ibérica is positioned to capitalize on that strategic location while strengthening connections with Latin American export markets.

The agreement establishing the partnership was signed in Madrid on July 29, 2025, by Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH, and Daniel Martínez, Executive Vice President of IFEMA Madrid.

“With Anuga Select Ibérica we are creating a strategic platform that will revitalise the food trade between Europe, Latin America and North Africa. For us Spain and Portugal are not just markets among many – they are the core of a region that sets trends worldwide. Together with IFEMA, we will bundle our international reach and local expertise to help companies from the food industry tap into this growth potential that didn’t exist in this form before. This project is a clear commitment to long-term, sustainable success on the Iberian Peninsula,” Böse said.

Martínez added: “With Anuga Select Ibérica we are making a clear statement to the food industry in Spain. By bring together two established trade fair formats under the renowned umbrella of Anuga, we want to promote sustainable growth, attract more international exhibitors and visitors and strengthen Madrid’s role in the food industry. This sector is one of the most important driving forces for the trade fairs of IFEMA MADRID, which has many years of experience in organising Meat Attraction and InterSICOP as well as Fruit Attraction, one of the most important global trade fairs for the agricultural and food sector.”
