The growing demand for gluten-free food products is providing an opportunity for players in the frozen food industry to capitalize on the market potential and frozen food distributor Central Foods is taking advantage of this tendency. The company has recently expanded its gluten-free portfolio by introducing the Golden Valley Foods gluten-free chicken fillet-Italiano and Southern fried chicken goujons.

According to the company, the gluten-free Golden Valley Foods range targets menus offered in pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, but also industrial catering operations, as the products “only take five minutes to cook in a combi oven from frozen.”

Both varieties are made of 100% chicken breast meat.

“Chicken is the most popular meat served in the UK, and there’s a growing demand for gluten-free products generally, so the Golden Valley Foods gluten-free chicken fillet-Italiano and the Golden Valley-Foods gluten-free Southern fried chicken goujons are ideal items for foodservice operators to add to their menus,” says Gordon Lauder, MD of Central Foods.

The fillet-Italiano is a butterflied chicken breast fillet with a crispy Southern fried coating and herby tomato sauce, red/green peppers, ham and mozzarella on top. As for the Southern-fried goujons, they can be used as starters and finger food, for buffets, as well as for sandwiches and wrap fillings.

The Golden Valley Foods poultry range debuted in 2018 with three gluten-free products – Kievs, chunks, and goujons – which are now joined by the fillet-Italiano and Southern fried chicken goujons.

Gluten-free is a major trend right now. Coeliac UK recently reported that according to Mintel 13% of the UK population is trying to avoid having gluten in their diet.

“The Golden Valley Foods poultry range is our most popular range at Central Foods, offering a selection that includes fillets, wings, drumsticks, stay, nuggets and steaks. The extension of the gluten-free options is likely to make it even more popular, given the increasing demand for gluten-free items,” Gordon further explained.
