Baja Foods Launches Premium Mexican Cuisine Brand

Baja Foods, a family-owned food manufacturer with a two-decade history in contract production, is making a strategic move into the retail market with the launch of its new premium brand, Chef Gustavo.

The inaugural product, Chicken & Cheese Enchiladas with Salsa Verde, represents a carefully crafted entry into the competitive ready-to-prepare meal segment. Each package contains eight enchiladas featuring antibiotic-free shredded white meat chicken, hand-rolled in corn tortillas with fresh vegetables, served atop fiesta rice, and garnished with a tangy tomatillo salsa verde and melted cheese blend.

Art Velasquez, CEO of Baja Foods and son of company founder Arthur Velasquez, sees the launch as more than a product release. “Launching Chef Gustavo marks an exciting chapter for Baja Foods as we expand our mission of sharing authentic Mexican cuisine,” Velasquez said. The new brand serves as a culinary tribute to Gustavo, embodying the company’s commitment to authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients.

The company, which has been a behind-the-scenes manufacturer since 2001, has built a reputation producing private-label and branded products for major consumer packaged goods companies. With USDA inspection and SQF certification, Baja Foods has established itself as a trusted producer of Mexican-inspired foods, including burritos, enchiladas, and taquitos.

Initially rolling out through Costco, the Chef Gustavo brand targets busy families seeking premium, convenient meal solutions without compromising on taste or nutritional quality. The strategic distribution through a major warehouse club suggests Baja Foods is positioning itself to compete in the growing market for premium, ready-to-prepare ethnic cuisine.
