This fall, producers of equipment for cooling and freezing boast a wide range of equipment for frozen food producers, including display cabinets, chillers, piston compressors, cryogenic freezers, either new or refurbished.
Refrigerated display cases/cabinets (RDCs) are refrigeration equipments used for storing and displaying products (food and beverage items) which require chilled or frozen conditions. The global market for RDCs was valued at USD 8,780.3m in 2012, according to company Transparent Market Research. It is further expected to grow at 9.6% CAGR during forecast period 2013 to 2019 and reach market size worth USD 16,283.4 million by 2019. Factors such as expanding retail (food retail) store network, rise in consumer dispensable income, and changing consumer lifestyle, are expected to help support market growth during the forecast period.
Demand from small to medium sized stores, which often have limited investment power and floor space, is expected to support the market growth of plug-in RDCs as compared to remote systems, according to the market research company. For the same reasons, vertical RDCs are expected to see higher demand too, compared to horizontal or other types. Advantages such as flexibility to move them as per store floor-plan and low installation time are seen as key attributes to support demand for plug-in RDCs. In contrast, features such as more display space per unit area of floor makes vertical RDCs preferred by store operators.
“Geographically, the Asia-Pacific region is highly promising for RDCs growth as the region is witnessing encouraging economic growth. The commercial sector, especially the retail and foodservice industries are fast expanding, resulting in increased demand for cold merchandisers. North America and Europe are seeing high competition as these regions are saturated, with regional brands such as, Arctica Showcase Canada Ltd., ISF Group, Omega Refrigeration, and others. RDCs manufacturers such as Frigoglass, Hoshizaki International, Dover Corporation, Manitowoc Company, Inc., and United Technologies Corporation, are among leading players, in the market, but other players such as Hussmann Corporation, Blue Star Limited, Sanden Corporation, Beverage-Air Corporation, too have strong market positioning in their respective regions,” says Transparency Market Research.
Freezer wins südback Trend Awards
Austrian manufacturer Schweitzer Ladendau GmbH was one of the Trend Award winners this year at südback, the trade fair specialized in Europe’s bakery and confectionery markets, held in Stuttgart on October 18-21. Following the gourmet convenience trend, the F49 Freezer that has received the acknowledgement can be used in-store for product presentation, as its system circulates chilled air throughout the unit, which features seven glass shelves and a rotation mechanism with auto-stop function when opening the door. The spotlight belonged to the local bakery during the fair, reflecting “the culture of going to a manufacturer directly and building up a relationship of trust,” said the State Secretary in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Finance and Economics, Ingo Rust.
The other two Trend Awards this year went to WP Bakerygroup and König.
With 650 exhibitors and 55,000 sqm of surface area, the show on its 25th anniversary covers all aspects of the bakery business, from technology solutions announcing process innovations, to in-store design options and apparel, and a program of seminars including training opportunities, competitions and awards.
New models from GEA
With the occasion of Chillventa 2014, GEA Refrigeration Technologies on the occasion has introduced several new developments, such as the F28, an open GEA Bock piston compressor. The innovations also include the GEA BluGenium chiller series, with its European Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Ratio (ESEER value) of approx. 9.5. Other novelties include the compact G100 ice generator, made of stainless steel, as well as the GEA Omni control system.
GEA Refrigeration Technologies has completed its GEA Bock F range by adding F18 eight-cylinder models, which feature long-life components and are smaller and lighter than the piston compressors available before. The F range offers an extensively varied performance spectrum, with displacements of approximately 10.5m³/h (F2) to 281m³/h (F18).
Moreover, design engineers at GEA
Refrigeration Technologies have developed a completely new range of medium-sized GEA Grasso compressors, which are designed for applications in refrigeration technology, for chillers or heat pumps. One highlight of the new range is the Type MS, which features an internal continuous Vi control system that allows adapting its internal volume conditions to external plant pressure conditions. This assures great energy efficiency under various operational states. In addition, the cooling output can be regulated via the motor speed, since the MS compressor is driven by a variable-speed motor and a frequency converter. This new compressor type will primarily be employed in compact GEA Grasso Blu-
Astrum chillers, which will enable them to achieve even better ESEER values.
The latest in cryogenic freezing
BOC, the UK & Ireland’s largest supplier of industrial gases and related equipment, has introduced two new freezers this year, which offer manufacturers high quality freezing that improves product yields, within a small footprint.
The Cryoline Cw is a multi-purpose freezer, which combines high-quality individually quick frozen (IQF) freezing characteristics, with the efficiency of an in-line tunnel, allowing users to switch product lines easily and efficiently. Freezing with cryogenic gas results in high quality IQF, ensuring product quality through minimal dehydration, combined with the added benefit of product yields up to 99.5%.
Keith Nicholson, BOC’s senior technical food specialist says: “The market is becoming increasingly competitive with pressure on manufacturers to ensure the highest levels of product quality, yet also needing to keep costs to a minimum. The new additions to the Cryoline range of freezers can make a significant difference to these crucial factors and is capable of processing a wide variety of products from raw and cooked meats and seafood to bakery products and ready meals.”
