Strawberry Season Developing Slowly because of Harsh Weather

The strawberry season in Morocco is developing more slowly than expected, due to harsh weather conditions, according to frozen food producer Dirafrost. This had an impact of the export volumes of fresh strawberries to Europe, as stated on Fresh Plaza on 3 March. By now the export of fresh strawberries from Morocco to Europe has stopped, but the local fresh market is performing pretty well. “As for Dirafrost Morocco, our contract farmers have planted more Festival variety, which is more wanted on the fresh market, but which is also more sensitive to high temperatures, whereas the Camarossa variety is more resistant against heat. Despite the difficult weather conditions of the past weeks, we are still on track with volumes and expect to reach our target of 12.000 tons by the end of the season. Prices in this moment are looking stable”, said company representatives.
