Over-glazing accusations

A recent market research regarding the foodservice market all over Europe organized by Belgafood (member of Comeos), about frozen giant Asian shrimps, indicated that the majority of the samples found at the food wholesalers are short weight from 3 to even 25%. “We can estimate that as the short weight bags are the cheapest, so the easiest to sell – actually 70 to 80% of the volume in the foodservice market of such shrimps. Short weight products were imported or produced throughout the EU although some countries seem the be affected more: the UK, Holland and Germany over-glazing seems to be an everyday practice”, said Olivier Hottlet, president Belgafood, the royal Belgian professional association for the import of food products.
