As the industry heads to SIAL, it was important for those covering the evolution of frozen food to take all aspects into account.
So, while this edition of Frozen Food Europe covers topics such as bakery & pastry or frozen vegetables and fruit, in the autumn edition of the Frozen Food Dossier we’ve looked at other segments – equally important – such as frozen potato or free-from foods.
So, what have we learned ahead of such an important event for the industry? As far as consumption trends go, it seems like plant-based lost some its steam when it comes to getting new consumers aboard. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, because maturing markets do tend to find it harder to grow. And we must keep in mind that in this case, consumption trends have little to do with innovation and new products, which I’m sure we’ll see plenty of in Paris.
Moving forward, frozen vegetables and fruit remains one of the safest bets out there, with consumption steadily rising year after year. It’s a similar story for frozen bakery and pastry products. Food packaging, another topic that we’ve covered this month, has seen a lot of movement in recent months, both in terms of new machines launched and new partnerships formed. Sustainability appears to be the key word here, as major players aim to develop solutions that can reduce food waste and limit their carbon footprint.
Hopefully, as SIAL gets underway, we’ll have a clearer image of where the industry is going and how new trends will affect new product development. The level of innovation is surely enough to get us all excited, and there’s no better place to talk about the future of frozen foods than such a gathering.
See you in Paris! bogdan.angheluta@trade.media
