Bidfood, one of the UK’s leading foodservice providers, is set to expand its logistics network with the opening of a new depot in Durham, underscoring its continued investment in infrastructure and regional growth.
The facility, expected to begin operations this summer, represents the latest addition to the company’s distribution estate as it seeks to strengthen service capabilities across the Northeast.
The purpose-built site is located off Drum Road in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, and will function as Bidfood’s primary hub for the region. The new depot is intended to consolidate existing operations currently based in Gateshead, allowing the company to streamline distribution while improving responsiveness to customer demand.
Spanning 86,098 sq. ft., the facility has been designed to meet the evolving demands of modern foodservice logistics. It includes dedicated cold and chilled storage alongside a substantial ambient warehouse, as well as a two-storey office building. The site also features extensive external yard space aimed at supporting efficient delivery and fleet operations.
The development reflects Bidfood’s broader sustainability objectives, with the depot designed to achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. The site incorporates a range of low-carbon features, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure and 50 cycle bays, intended to encourage more sustainable commuting options for employees and visitors.
Once operational, the Durham depot is expected to play a central role in reinforcing Bidfood’s regional logistics capabilities while also contributing to local employment, as the company continues to expand its presence and support customers across the Northeast.
