Frozen Food Sales Still Up After Stockpiling Peak

The latest data from research companies Information Resources Inc. (IRI) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), for the week ending April 5, show frozen and refrigerated food sales still rising even after the panic buying period had ended.

In Italy, the data for the week ending April 5, compared to last year’s same period shows an increase of 26,5% for frozen food sales. The percentage is even higher in Greece (32,7%) and New Zealand (59,8%). Each of the countries taken into consideration by IRI and BCG has seen an uptick in sales, with the lower percentages coming from The Netherlands (10,1%) and the UK (17,1%). In the US, frozen cookie dough has seen a massive spike in sales, growing by 453,9% in the week ending April 5.

It’s also worth mentioning that private label has performed well in the US, having a market share of 22% of all packaged food in the last month.
