The American Frozen Food Institute welcomed the release of the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, pointing to the growing recognition of frozen fruits and vegetables as a practical and nutritious choice for consumers.
The organization noted that frozen produce is not merely an alternative to fresh options but, in many cases, offers comparable or even superior nutritional value.
According to the institute, frozen fruits and vegetables often retain the same or higher nutrient levels than fresh products, while their extended shelf life helps reduce food waste and lowers costs for households. These attributes position frozen produce as an accessible option for a wide range of consumers, particularly as affordability and sustainability become more prominent considerations in food choices.
The institute also highlighted the role of prepared frozen meals in addressing portion control, an issue emphasized in the Dietary Guidelines. Pre-portioned frozen offerings, it said, provide a straightforward way for consumers to manage serving sizes without sacrificing balance or convenience.
“It’s time for fresh thinking about frozen foods – their convenience makes eating whole foods easy for real American families,” said Alison Bodor, President and CEO, American Frozen Food Institute.
