INTERPOM Sets New Benchmarks with Record-Breaking Attendance

The global potato industry convened at Kortrijk Xpo over the past few days for INTERPOM, which shattered previous records with an astounding 23,998 visitors.

Despite pressing challenges—including climate change, stringent regulations, escalating disease pressures, and concerns over soil and water quality—the potato sector displayed remarkable resilience and optimism.

Under the banner of “Energizing a Potato Industry in Transition,” the event underscored the industry’s commitment to navigating a sustainability-driven future. Once again, INTERPOM cemented its status as the premier trade platform for the potato sector, offering pragmatic solutions to meet the evolving demands of this dynamic industry.

This year, INTERPOM hosted an impressive 330 exhibitors from 15 countries and achieved an 18% increase in visitors compared to its last edition. Spread across three days, Sunday attracted 9,471 attendees (+13%), Monday drew 8,378 (+20%), and Tuesday welcomed 6,150 (+26%). International participation was a standout feature, with 31.5% of visitors hailing from 59 countries outside Belgium.

The event recorded notable growth from neighboring nations, such as the Netherlands (+14%) and France (+15.6%), alongside a striking 20% rise in visitors from more distant markets, including Canada, India, Australia, the United States, Japan, South Africa, and Northern Europe. INTERPOM continues to solidify its role as a global hub for potato professionals, strategically positioned in Western Europe’s potato-growing heartland.

Christophe Vermeulen, CEO of Belgapom, hailed the event’s unprecedented success, emphasizing the critical elements that underpin INTERPOM’s growing reputation: integration, professionalism, and innovation. “No other trade fair in the world encompasses the entire potato supply chain—from growers to consumers,” Vermeulen noted.

He praised the seamless collaboration between Xpo Group and Belgapom, whose expertise ensures a world-class event year after year. Positioned at the nexus of the global potato sector, INTERPOM serves as a proving ground for cutting-edge technologies. “This leadership attracts an ever-growing number of international visitors,” he said, highlighting the fair’s role as a magnet for innovation and expertise.

Reflecting on 2024—a year marked by volatile weather conditions, including a challenging wet spring—Vermeulen expressed pride in INTERPOM’s contribution to the industry. “We’re closing the year on a high note, and for the first time, the event has garnered significant attention from Belgium’s national press. I hope policymakers recognize the unique strength of our potato industry and support its continued growth.”

With its record-breaking attendance, growing international presence, and unwavering focus on innovation, INTERPOM 2024 has not only set a new standard for the global potato industry but also highlighted its critical role in addressing the sector’s future challenges and opportunities.
