Seafrigo Expands Nordic Footprint

Seafrigo, a global leader in cold chain logistics with a specialization in food transportation and storage, has inaugurated a new flagship facility in Sweden, underscoring the company’s strategic expansion in Northern Europe.

The 10,000-square-metre warehouse in Katrineholm, southwest of Stockholm, is the company’s fifth in the country and marks a significant step forward in enhancing its service capabilities across the Nordic region.

The state-of-the-art site, equipped with 30,000 pallet positions, was unveiled in a ceremony attended by Seafrigo President and Founder Eric Barbé, Group CEO Bruno Plantaz, and Chief Projects Officer Stéphane Desseigne. Also present were Seafrigo Nordics Directors Peter Jönsson and Magnus Mohlin, along with local officials and customers, who toured the facility and saw firsthand the technological investments Seafrigo has made to strengthen its logistics infrastructure.

Headquartered in Helsingborg since 2018, Seafrigo’s Nordic operations play a pivotal role in the company’s global logistics network. The company handles a wide array of temperature-sensitive goods across four distinct climate zones, from frozen to controlled ambient.

Across the region, Seafrigo processes 3,000 specialized pallets daily and conducts blast freezing of 600 tonnes of meat each week. The new Katrineholm site alone adds capacity for an additional 100 tonnes of blast freezing weekly, underscoring the company’s focus on scale, speed, and precision.

“This new development enables us to further enhance Seafrigo’s extensive service offering across the Nordics and ensures we can better serve our customers’ precise, specialist needs,” said Managing Director Peter Jönsson. “Located close to major retailers’ national distribution centres, we can meet and exceed their requirements while maintaining our commitment to sustainability.”

The facility is Miljöbyggnad Silver certified, adhering to Sweden’s stringent environmental building standards. Seafrigo’s efforts to reduce emissions go beyond infrastructure—its Nordic fleet includes fully electric trucks, completely eliminating diesel usage in local transport. These initiatives reflect the company’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility.

Seafrigo Sweden plays a central role in protein logistics, managing the storage, handling, and export of beef, pork, and poultry. The company receives fresh deliveries directly from slaughterhouses, then rapidly blast-freezes the meat from +2°C to -18°C to prepare for export. Key export markets include Asia and Africa, while domestically, Seafrigo supports Swedish retail chains by storing and distributing meat products across the country.

The new facility enhances Seafrigo’s ability to provide overnight deliveries to 80% of the Nordic region, enabling swift distribution of perishable goods and maintaining the freshness and quality expected by customers. The company’s logistics model is built on cutting-edge warehouse management systems, full traceability, and high-performance cold storage—all of which contribute to its reputation for excellence in the food logistics sector.

With the launch of the Katrineholm warehouse, Seafrigo reaffirms its position as a market leader in cool-chain logistics, blending operational scale with sustainability and precision to meet the evolving needs of its global customer base.
