United Against Waste: Data Shows Potential Savings of Up to 30%

United Against Waste e.V. (UAW) has presented an interim balance for 2020 and the results shows an impressive 30% reduction of food waste. In the last three years, the waste in foodservice in all analyzed companies decreased significantly. As a longstanding and active member of UAW, Deutsche Tiefkühlinstitut e.V. (dti) acknowledges the success and the positive development of the last few years. The results of UAW also underline the important role of frozen products in the hospitality industry.

The 2020 interim report provides meaningful data and figures based on numerous measurements in companies, on the extent of food waste in foodservice as well as new findings and solutions for the industry. In the meantime, over 720 analyzes have been carried out in hotels, company restaurants, hospitals, school catering, and system catering. The current results allow an overview of the development over the past three years. Most importantly, the total cost of measures implemented to reduce waste represent only 10% of the actual savings.
