McCain Foods has revealed plans to invest approximately USD100m in its first French fry factory in Brazil. The intention is to build the new plant in Araxá, in Minas Gerais State.
The news comes after McCain acquired a 70% stake in food company Sérya earlier this year. The company also purchased 49% of Forno de Minas, another Brazilian firm which specializes in bread snacks and appetizers. With the upcoming investment, McCain is focusing on its main growth category: frozen French fries.
The new plant in Brazil is scheduled to open in the first half of 2021 and will significantly increase in McCain’s production capacity in Latin America. The new factory is expected to generate 150 direct jobs, 459 indirect jobs and impact approximately 750 farmers and agricultural professionals in the area.
Brazil is today the 5th largest frozen pre-fried potato market in the world and therefore is one of McCain Foods major global focuses within a business strategy that concentrates efforts on investments that enable accelerated growth.
“With the construction of the new factory in Brazil, McCain will enhance its distribution, create efficiencies in supply and consequently improve its service level and product offering in the local market”, says Aluizio Neto, General Director of McCain in Brazil.
