The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) has unveiled its 2025 Global Top 25 List, recognizing the largest temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics companies among its global membership.
Based on total reported temperature-controlled capacity, the annual rankings offer a clear picture of how the industry is expanding across key regions.
This year’s list reflects significant growth in cold chain capacity, driven by a mix of mergers, acquisitions, and the completion of numerous expansion projects.
The companies included in the Global Top 25 now operate a combined total of 7.3 billion cubic feet (207 million cubic meters) of refrigerated space. Across the entire GCCA membership, total capacity has grown to 8.16 billion cubic feet (231 million cubic meters), representing an increase of more than 10 percent since last year. This surge underscores the strength and resilience of the sector, even amid global economic pressures.
Regionally, North America continues to lead in overall capacity with its top 25 members operating 5 billion cubic feet (141.5 million cubic meters). Europe’s top 10 members account for 1.43 billion cubic feet (40.6 million cubic meters), while the top 10 members in Latin America operate 578 million cubic feet (16.4 million cubic meters).
The most significant gains were observed in North America, both in terms of absolute capacity added and percentage growth.
Since the publication of the 2024 list, capacity among the Global Top 25 has increased by 640 million cubic feet. In North America, capacity rose by 629 million cubic feet, while Europe and Latin America saw increases of 263 million and 137 million cubic feet respectively.
Much of this growth has been fueled by infrastructure investments, including greenfield developments and facility expansions, signaling continued optimism among both longstanding operators and new market entrants.
Commenting on the findings, Adam Thocher, GCCA’s Senior Vice President of Global Programs & Insights, noted that growth across all regions in 2024 surpassed levels seen in the previous two years. While the pace of acquisition activity may have slowed, the overall expansion of cold chain infrastructure remains strong, particularly at the top levels of the industry.
The Global Cold Chain Alliance represents over 1,500 temperature-controlled facilities in more than 92 countries. Its members provide a wide range of logistics services, including cold storage, transportation, processing, blast freezing, and export logistics.
With the release of the 2025 Global Top 25 List, GCCA continues to highlight the evolving role of cold chain logistics in supporting global supply chains and ensuring the quality and safety of temperature-sensitive goods.
