Green Packaging in Focus at Bologna Conference

Ucima (Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association) and the FICO Foundation are set to organize the “Packaging Speaks Green”an international forum dedicated to the development of sustainability in the packaging sector. The event is scheduled to take place between February 20-21, 2020 in Bologna, Italy.

Packaging Speaks Green will focus on global trends in sustainable and biodegradable packaging and is dedicated to B2B. Its three major macro-themes include legislation, retailers and brand owners, and materials and technologies.

Experts from the U.S., the European Union, India, China, and Australia will be in attendance to present the choices that the governments of these key markets are introducing in the environmental and awareness-raising fields of society and industry. Some of the main global retailers will be presenting concrete examples of best practices in packaging management in different product sectors.

A dedicated panel of technological innovation and materials will present the latest news regarding compostable and recyclable themes, within a circular economy aimed at enhancing the principle of efficiency. This is not only in relation to energy choices but also encompasses the use or reuse of all resources during all phases of the production cycle: beginning with sustainable product design, in terms of durability, separable parts, biodegradability and production with renewable and non-toxic resources, and ending with correct waste management. All these aspects are supported by production processes consisting of increasingly digitalized systems that can control and monitor each phase to minimize energy consumption.

The event will also focus on research, with guests from Universities and Research Centers committed to sharing knowledge about new materials and packaging designs.
