Nestlé Bets on the Plant-based Trend with Two New Launches

Nestlé

Nestlé is targeting the booming plant-based category with two fresh arrivals,  Yahoo News writes. Its Digiorno and Stouffer’s brands have unveiled two meatless products: the Digiorno Rising Crust Meatless Supreme pizza and the Stouffer’s Meatless Lasagna.

The Italian frozen food options are actually vegetarian because they contain cheese, so they are not suitable for vegans. Both the lasagna and the new pizza use Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds in place of ground beef and sausage. The meat alternative mixes yellow pea protein, wheat gluten and multiple vegetable oils to offer a meat-like taste, while delivering plenty of protein and fiber, according to the producing company.

Sweet Earth, was acquired by Nestle in 2017, and manufacturers a wide range of frozen and fresh plant-based products including sausages, burgers and single-serve microwave meals.

The new products will officially launch in the spring on Amazon Fresh, and the company is also in talks with other retail partners for a bigger roll out.
