Russia Bans EU and US Frozen Meat

The Russian authorities have decided to ban imports of a whole range of food products from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and Norway, including frozen meat, as a retaliatory measure against sanctions imposed against the country, on the Ukrainian crisis.

Authorities said the ban is effective immediately and will be valid for a year. It includes such food categories as frozen, chilled and fresh beef, frozen, chilled and fresh poultry, frozen, chilled and fresh pork, fish, vegetables, fruit, nuts, milk, dairy products and various types of cheeses.

According to international media outlets, authorities in Russia also said they were considering a ban on European airlines flying to Asia, over Siberia.
