Starfrost Unveils Hybrid Tunnel Freezer Aimed at Boosting Capacity and Efficiency in Food Processing

Starfrost has introduced a new Hybrid Tunnel Freezer, positioning the system as a next-generation solution for Individual Quick Freezing, or IQF, as food manufacturers seek greater efficiency and flexibility in production.

The updated model incorporates design, performance and hygiene enhancements while maintaining a focus on energy efficiency, reflecting broader industry pressure to increase output without raising operating costs. The launch comes as processors continue to modernize equipment to handle a wider variety of products and higher production volumes.

A central feature of the new system is its more compact design, which the company says can deliver up to 60% greater production capacity compared with its predecessor. Despite the reduced footprint, the freezer is designed to handle a range of food products, including small and delicate items such as raw minced meat, seafood and cooked proteins. The smaller physical footprint is intended to help manufacturers make more efficient use of factory floor space.

The performance gains are driven in part by the addition of two extra conveyor belts, allowing higher throughput without increasing energy consumption or expanding the machine’s footprint. This approach is aimed at processors looking to scale production while keeping energy use and operational costs stable.

The equipment also reflects a growing emphasis on hygiene in food manufacturing. Built around what the company describes as a clean-by-design approach, the freezer incorporates smooth surfaces and minimizes hard-to-clean areas, simplifying sanitation and supporting compliance with industry hygiene standards.

Another key element is the multi-belt conveyor system, which crust-freezes products before completing the freezing process. This method is intended to help preserve product shape and appearance while improving transfer between belts. The process also promotes product agitation, reduces clumping and supports more consistent IQF results.

Starfrost has also focused on installation and usability, delivering the system as a pre-assembled package that can be operational within one week of delivery, according to the company. The approach is designed to limit downtime during installation and accelerate time to production.

Robert Long, Managing Director at Starfrost:
“We are committed to the ongoing innovation of our products and services, always focused on delivering the latest technological advancements to our customers. As technology evolves, so do we. Our mission is to continuously improve, and with that, our solutions evolve to meet the highest standards. Our new Hybrid Tunnel Freezer is a perfect example of this evolution—offering enhanced design and performance with key improvements in hygiene and energy efficiency. We are excited to launch this new model to the market and continue providing cutting-edge IQF solutions to our global customer base.”

The company is positioning the Hybrid Tunnel Freezer as a response to the demands of modern food production, where manufacturers are under pressure to balance speed, product quality and cost control. By combining higher capacity with stable energy use and improved sanitation features, Starfrost is aiming to strengthen its foothold in a competitive market for industrial freezing technology.
