Wicked Kitchen, a 100% plant-based, flavor-forward global food brand announced the purchase of Current Foods, a plant-based seafood supplier to fine dining and food service establishments in the US and Europe. Current Foods is an alt-protein firm.
The CEO of Wicked Kitchen, Pete Speranza, claims that the company’s acquisition of Current Foods, its second in a year, is accretive to Wicked Kitchen’s portfolio, focuses on an exciting growing market, and is indicative of the need for consolidation in the plant-based business.
Good Catch, a plant-based seafood CPG brand, was bought by Wicked Kitchen last fall, expanding the company’s multi-category retail approach into the alternative seafood sector.
“Current Foods is a perfect match for Wicked as a global-impact brand with the same mission and complementary products,” Speranza said. “With this deal and the Good Catch acquisition, we’re uniquely positioned as consumers continually learn about the environmental impact realities on sea life. We’re able to put the Current Foods brand in the best possible spot to thrive and as a versatile multi-category brand, Wicked Kitchen is the home to do that.”
With more than 40 products in the United States and more than 150 products in the United Kingdom, Wicked Kitchen provides the industry’s widest selection of chef-crafted, animal-free consumer packaged goods. These products are available at 90,000 distribution locations. A wide range of ambient and frozen products, including as heat-and-eat entrees, artisan frozen pizzas, and novelties and ice creams that are firsts in their respective categories, are included in the brand’s multi-category plant-based retail offers.
The all-stock deal expands Wicked Kitchen’s ability to provide culinary services by adding vegan sushi-grade tuna and salmon. Last year, Wicked Kitchen began offering food service through concessions in sports and entertainment venues in the United States. This year, the company expanded into Booker Wholesale, the top food service company in the United Kingdom.
