W.E. Market for Processed Fish to Grow Significantly

The market for processed and fresh fish in Western Europe was estimated at EUR 72.72bn in 2014 and is expected to grow in value by 10.54% by 2017 to EUR 80.30bn, according to a new study by Swiss research company Food For Thought.

According to the information provided, per capita expenditure in 2014 was of EUR 176.85, with the Top 8 major players controlling 28% of the entire market supply. The leading company by market share value in 2014 was Lion Capital, with a 6.09% share of the Western European market, followed by Nomad Holdings with 5.94% and Icelandic Group with 2.64%.

The other major players include Marine Harvest, Pescanova, Pomona, Bolton and Apetito.

The report also analyzes the core markets by value, showing that Spain, Denmark, France, Italy, Germany and the UK are among the main target consumer markets for both processed and fresh fish.
