Birds Eye is expanding its Steamfresh range with four globally inspired additions as consumer demand for convenient yet nutritious meal options continues to climb.
The new products—Korean Style Noodles, Malaysian Laksa Style Noodles, Asian Rice and Mexican Rice—aim to bring bolder international flavors to the frozen aisle while meeting growing expectations around health and ease of preparation.
The launch comes at a time when eating habits are shifting rapidly. Data indicates that households in the UK are preparing 612 million fewer meals from scratch than they did before pandemic lockdowns, underscoring a broader move toward convenient food options. At the same time, consumer interest in healthier eating remains strong. About 66% of shoppers report making active choices to improve their health, yet the nation has consumed 1.3 billion fewer servings of fruit and vegetables compared with 2024.
This tension between nutrition and convenience has helped boost the frozen food category. More than two-thirds of consumers say frozen products make it easier to experiment with new cuisines at home. In particular, world cuisine occasions are growing quickly in domestic meal settings, with Pan-Asian dishes increasing by 23%.
Birds Eye’s new Steamfresh products are designed to capitalize on that intersection of convenience, taste and nutrition. Each item provides at least one portion toward the recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables per day, and all products are classified as non-HFSS. The range uses the company’s microwave steaming technology, which is intended to preserve nutrients while delivering consistent cooking results.
The products are designed to fit a variety of meal occasions, serving either as standalone options or as side dishes that can be paired with proteins or other components of a meal. The company says the approach reflects changing consumer habits, particularly the demand for quick midweek meal solutions that do not compromise on flavor.
The broader Steamfresh portfolio has already demonstrated strong commercial momentum. The range has grown 10.7% in value year over year and has driven a 15.5% increase in household penetration during the same period.
Steamfresh Korean Style Noodles and Asian Rice are scheduled to launch in Tesco starting March 9. Malaysian Laksa Style Noodles and Mexican Rice will follow in ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Iceland.
