Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the professional food trade fair SIAL, organized in Paris between 19-23 October awarded the three medals for the Innovation Grand Prix to some of the most unique and innovative products which entered the competition.
The bronze was awarded jointly to two similar products, one from a French producer and the other from Portugal: Ready Grow Mushrooms and Eco Gumelo CAP – both presented growing kits for mushrooms, which enable Oyster mushrooms to be grown directly in the cardboard box, at home. The compost is made of recycled coffee grounds and the product has its own vaporizer included.
The silver medal went to a frozen product, namely organic frozen minced meat for babies, made by French company Yooji, while the grand winner who took home the gold was French producer Twists, for its ready meal in a box, with a separate sauce in the lid. The concept allows users to simply turn the lid to release the sauce onto the food and afterwards heat it in a microwave.
Lastly, the special online award for innovation was voted on Facebook and granted to Springwave, a replenishing drink enriched with spirulina, a product which also won the award for best non-alcoholic beverage.
A full review of the event will be available in the next print issue of Frozen Food Europe magazine.
