ChillCo Logistics Expands Midwest Footprint With Mattingly Cold Storage Partnership

ChillCo Logistics, a newly formed cold-chain platform backed by infrastructure investor Igneo Infrastructure Partners, is expanding into the US Midwest through a partnership with Mattingly Cold Storage, a long-established, family-owned refrigerated warehouse operator based in Zanesville, Ohio.

The deal marks an early step in ChillCo’s strategy to build a broader cold-storage network by partnering with independent operators seeking growth capital and succession solutions. Rather than consolidating brands under a single identity, the company is positioning itself as a platform that allows local operators to retain their names, teams and customer relationships under its “Powered by ChillCo” model.

Mattingly Cold Storage, founded in 2008, has developed a strong presence serving food producers, distributors and retailers across the Midwest. The company operates a multi-temperature facility with more than 30,000 pallet positions and has built its reputation on flexibility and customer service. Its offerings include customized logistics solutions and extended operating hours designed to meet the demands of modern supply chains.

The leadership team at Mattingly will remain in place, with Andrew Hess, Rusty Deaton and Angie Schmidt continuing to oversee day-to-day operations while also joining ChillCo’s executive team. The arrangement underscores ChillCo’s approach of integrating partner companies without disrupting existing management structures.

Mattingly’s roots extend further back than its current corporate structure. The business traces its heritage to more than 70 years of family ownership and operation in temperature-controlled logistics, specializing in refrigerated and frozen storage. Over time, it has adapted its services to meet shifting customer needs, particularly as supply chains have become more complex and time-sensitive.

ChillCo, for its part, is positioning itself as a platform built by industry operators rather than financial sponsors alone. The company says it aims to provide partner businesses with access to capital, operational expertise and flexible deal structures, while preserving the local identity and relationships that have historically driven their success.

The partnership reflects a broader trend in the cold-storage sector, where rising demand for temperature-controlled logistics—driven by e-commerce, food distribution and pharmaceutical supply chains—is attracting long-term investment capital. Platforms like ChillCo are seeking to scale quickly by aligning with established regional operators rather than building capacity from the ground up.
