Mondi, a global packaging and paper company, said nine of its packaging solutions have been honored with WorldStar Packaging Awards 2026, a recognition that places the group among the most awarded participants in this year’s competition.
Organized by the World Packaging Organisation, the annual awards spotlight advances in packaging design, technology and sustainability across international markets.
The company said the winning solutions reflect its strategy of developing high-performance packaging that replaces less sustainable materials, improves recyclability and meets the operational needs of customers. The recognized products span a broad range of applications, including food, eCommerce, household goods, electronics and transit packaging, highlighting the company’s effort to support a more circular economy across multiple end markets.
Andrew King, CEO Mondi Group, said: “We are very proud that nine of our solutions have been recognised with WorldStar Packaging Awards in 2026. These awards highlight our teams’ ability to combine innovation, performance and sustainability, and to translate ambitious goals into practical packaging solutions. They reflect our strong customer partnerships and our continued commitment to developing recyclable alternatives at scale.”
The WorldStar Packaging Awards are regarded as one of the industry’s top distinctions, recognizing packaging concepts that address challenges such as material efficiency, recyclability and product protection. Mondi’s performance in the 2026 awards further reinforces its position as a supplier to global brands seeking to reduce environmental impact without sacrificing functionality.
In addition to its own awards, Mondi noted that its long-standing customer Werner & Mertz also received a WorldStar Award in the Household category for the Frosch fabric softener stand-up pouch. Developed through close collaboration, the pouch is fully recyclable and incorporates post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from household collections, reflecting a shared commitment to circular packaging solutions.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 8 May in Düsseldorf, Germany, where packaging companies from around the world will gather to recognize innovation and technical excellence.
Among Mondi’s 2026 award-winning solutions are the Protective Mailer for eCommerce, the FreshFood Box for grocery delivery, Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible kraft paper, re/cycle HiProtex Paper for health and personal care applications, re/cycle ProtectorBAG PocketForm for transit packaging, re/cycle CompressWrap for household products, re/cycle VacuumPack for non-alcoholic beverages, the 3 in 1 Separator for electronics and the Koala Display for point-of-sale use.
The Protective Mailer is a paper-based padded mailer designed to eliminate plastic while maintaining strong product protection for online retail shipments. Its lightweight, high-strength paper construction and open-flute design provide cushioning during transit and allow the entire pack to be recycled in paper streams.
The FreshFood Box is a thick-walled cardboard solution developed for grocery delivery, helping to keep fresh produce cooler for longer periods. Its multi-layer structure with integrated inserts reduces temperature transfer and offers retailers a paper-based alternative to expanded polystyrene boxes without requiring changes to existing packing or delivery processes.
Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible is a kraft paper engineered to combine strength, extensibility and puncture resistance with a smooth surface suitable for coating and printing. Designed for industrial and consumer uses, including form-fill-and-seal applications, it is recyclable within established EU paper recycling systems.
re/cycle HiProtex Paper is a high-barrier, paper-based material intended to replace aluminum and PVDC composite structures. With more than 80% paper content, it offers protection against oxygen, water vapor and light while remaining recyclable in paper or lightweight packaging streams, making it suitable for food, personal care and pet products.
re/cycle ProtectorBAG PocketForm replaces plastic film in the transport and storage of items such as bicycle accessories, electronic components and automotive parts. Made entirely from recyclable paper, it offers customizable compartments, reduces disposal costs and provides a premium unpacking experience.
re/cycle CompressWrap is designed for compressed mattresses and combines an inner compress wrap with a secondary outer wrap. The solution supports durable vacuum sealing during compression and secure transport, while allowing tool-free opening and integration into existing packaging lines.
re/cycle VacuumPack is a mono-material vacuum packaging solution for coffee based on polypropylene. Free from aluminum and polyamide, it delivers strong oxygen and water vapor barriers while remaining compatible with existing vacuum packaging equipment.
The 3 in 1 Separator is a corrugated packaging solution that replaces expanded polystyrene for protecting multiple electronic components within a single pack. Its space-efficient design simplifies packing processes while maintaining protection during transport and handling.
The Koala Display is a point-of-sale packaging solution designed to combine visual impact with efficient use of corrugated materials. Easy to assemble and adaptable to different retail environments, it is intended to enhance brand visibility in high-traffic stores while minimizing material use.
