It is Italy’s best-known dish, there are pizza parolors in towns and cities all over Europe, and many, though not all of them, are run by Italians.
“It can be said that pizza is part of the world’s food heritage and we can look forward to a contest in which experienced pizza chefs from all over the continent battle it out to win the coveted European Pizza Championship, the competition traditionally held every two years during HostMilano, for two days,” said the organizers.
The 2019 edition of the European Pizza Championship will be held on 21 and 22 October. The event, organized in collaboration with the magazine Pizza e Pasta Italiana, is a not-to-be-missed occasion for pizza makers and pizza lovers across the continent. Over 50 pizza makers from Italy, France, Hungary, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland brought the 2017 edition to life. The winner was Gianluca Concu of the Firmino pizzeria in Cavaglià, Vercelli.
“It will be interesting to see whether another Italian will win this time round, now that the dish that displays the colors of Italy’s national flag (red, white and green) has been declared a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, in recognition of the Neapolitan art of pizza-making,” the organizers added.
A select panel of judges will have the task of evaluating the entries for the championship and give their verdict on flavors and combinations of flavors, presentation, baking and the overall pizza-making skills displayed by the contestants.
