Zucker’s Bagels Expands into Retail with Par-Baked Frozen Bagels

New York City’s Zucker’s Bagels & Smoked Fish is bringing its signature bagels to a broader audience with the launch of its first retail product: Par-Baked Frozen Bagels.

The expansion marks a milestone for the beloved bagel shop, allowing consumers to finish baking Zucker’s bagels at home for an authentic New York experience.

The new offering debuts this month at online retailers Fresh Direct and Goldbelly, as well as select tri-state area stores, including Butterfield Market, Westside Market, and certain ShopRite locations in New Jersey. The initial lineup includes three varieties: Plain, Sesame, and Everything.

Zucker’s commitment to traditional bagel-making techniques remains central to the new product. The bagels are crafted using unbromated, unbleached flours, New York City water, and a touch of malt syrup. They are kettle-boiled, generously seeded, and partially baked in rotating ovens, first on burlap-covered boards before being flipped onto stone slabs. Once frozen, they retain their freshness until consumers complete the baking process at home—requiring only a quick water spritz and nine to fourteen minutes in an oven or air fryer.

The result, the company says, is a bagel with a golden-brown crust and a dense, chewy interior, delivering the same quality that has made Zucker’s a staple of the city’s bagel scene.

“You no longer need to be in New York City to have the best bagel experience,” said Matt Pomerantz, founder of Zucker’s and a veteran of the bagel industry for more than three decades. “Our par-baked bagels are not your average frozen bagel; with the finest natural ingredients and traditional process, I’m proud of the craftsmanship we established when we opened our first shop in Tribeca in 2007, and thrilled to share our baking traditions.”

The launch comes with a high-profile endorsement: Chef Marc Forgione, founder of Respect Hospitality and owner of acclaimed New York restaurants Forgione and Peasant, has joined as a partner and brand ambassador. A longtime fan of Zucker’s, Forgione will introduce a collaborative sandwich at Zucker’s seven locations this spring.

“Nothing beats a fresh New York City bagel, and a warm and delicious Zucker’s bagel right out of the oven is a must-have experience,” said Forgione. “Par baking doesn’t have to be a chef’s secret any longer, and I’m excited to bring this ultimate convenience to bagel lovers near and far.”

Zucker’s Par-Baked Bagels are available in four-packs at select retailers, with nationwide shipping available by the dozen or in a classic brunch package via Goldbelly. A portion of sales will benefit The Bowery Mission in support of its efforts to fight hunger in New York City.
