Anuga and the German Frozen Food Institute are expanding their long-standing collaboration in a bid to position Anuga Frozen Food as the world’s leading platform for the frozen food industry, following what organizers describe as the most successful Anuga trade fair in the event’s history.
The move underscores a shared objective: strengthening the frozen category as a central pillar of sustainable global nutrition.
More than a century after the advent of industrial shock freezing, frozen products continue to symbolize reliability, innovation and quality. Anuga has played a central role in shaping that trajectory.
In 1955, the trade fair in Cologne introduced the first frozen products to the German retail market. Seventy years later, Anuga Frozen Food has evolved into a major global meeting point, serving as both a showcase for modern food production and a launchpad for innovation.
This year’s edition reaffirmed that status. The 2025 event hosted more than 650 exhibitors, with 93% arriving from outside Germany, marking a record level of international participation. Complementary programming—including the “2nd International Frozen Food Conference,” the “Tiefkühl Star” and the “Frozen! dti Innovation Award”—highlighted emerging trends and underscored the sector’s growing relevance.
Sabine Eichner, Managing Director of the dti, emphasized the category’s strategic importance. “When it comes to innovative nutritional solutions and global food security, frozen food is an indispensable solution,” she said. She noted that in a world defined by climate volatility, geopolitical tensions and unstable raw material prices, frozen products provide consumers, the foodservice sector and supply chains with predictability. “Frozen products offer freshness, quality and convenience at the same time, together with their sustainability benefits they are a real powerhouse for a modern diet. Frozen food is a global category of the future, and we would like to communicate this even more strongly at and with Anuga Frozen Food.”
Simon Morris, Chairman of the Board of dti and Managing Director of Salomon FoodWorld, underscored the trade fair’s commercial importance. “Anuga is not only an international marketplace and showcase, but also a lifeline for our companies and the global food industry,” he said. He argued that exports and international networks remain essential for the sector’s survival. “The dti and Anuga Frozen Food bring the global frozen food industry closer together, which strengthens our supply chains in the long term.”
Kolnmesse Managing Director Oliver Frese described the partnership as central to the event’s continued evolution. “The long-standing cooperation with the dti is a key success factor for Anuga Frozen Food,” he said. “The deepening of our partnership is a strong signal to the industry: We are pooling our expertise to further expand Anuga Frozen Food as a leading global platform and to underline the importance of frozen products for sustainable nutrition worldwide.”
The relationship between Anuga and the dti dates back to 2013, and the two partners have built a reputation for consistent and effective collaboration. Over the years, the dti has helped enhance the fair’s appeal through high-profile programming, strong industry communication and an active presence on the show floor. Its international networks, including the International Frozen Food Network and collaborations with the Global Cold Chain Alliance, have further extended Anuga’s global reach.
Looking ahead, the enhanced partnership is designed to elevate Anuga Frozen Food’s international profile, reinforce the growing importance of frozen products within the global food economy and increase long-term value for exhibitors and visitors. The dti and Anuga plan to intensify their cooperation across all aspects of the event, from year-round industry communication to program development and the broader conceptual design of the trade fair.
