The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) has named Karen McQuade as its new president, marking a significant leadership transition as she succeeds Ian Stone, who concludes his term after nearly four years of service.
McQuade, an influential figure within the frozen food industry, was elected to the role during the federation’s Annual General Meeting on November 13.
With a career spanning 25 years in the frozen food sector, McQuade first engaged with the BFFF in 1999 and has been a steadfast advocate for industry innovation and British sourcing.
In 2007, she established The UK Foodhall Ltd, a company now recognized as a key provider of high-quality, healthy British meat, fish, and poultry products for the school meal sector. Under her leadership, the company has gained national acclaim, amassing 17 business awards and 32 product awards. Her portfolio has since expanded to encompass three additional British food manufacturing firms, collectively employing approximately 260 people.
An active BFFF director for six years, McQuade steps into the presidency with a clear mission: to elevate the role of frozen food in sustainable consumption, reducing waste, and providing quality without added preservatives.
“The BFFF has long been a vital advocate for frozen food, and as consumer awareness around sustainability grows, so does the need for a strong, unified voice for our sector,” McQuade remarked. “I am particularly passionate about supporting our young leaders, as their development is essential for the future of this industry.”
BFFF CEO Rupert Ashby praised McQuade’s appointment, citing her “entrepreneurial drive, dedication to British food, and deep commitment to the frozen sector” as assets to the federation. Ashby also acknowledged outgoing president Ian Stone, who has provided steady leadership through an era of industry adaptation to Brexit and pandemic challenges. “Ian’s tenure has been marked by resilience and vision,” Ashby said, “and we are grateful for his exceptional service.”
Stone, who will continue his distinguished career as Chief Executive Designate at apetito UK, where he has held key roles since 2003, leaves the BFFF in capable hands as McQuade takes the helm to navigate both new opportunities and ongoing challenges in the frozen food sector.
