Koelnmesse GmbH has appointed Roland Thiemann as the new director of Anuga FoodTec, the world’s leading trade fair for food and beverage technology, effective January 2025.
He succeeds Matthias Schlüter, who is stepping down after a 24-year tenure with the German trade fair organizer.
Mr. Thiemann, 47, brings significant international experience in food and beverage innovation to the role. Most recently, he worked as an independent consultant in Australia and Germany, advising companies on innovation strategy, brand development, and sustainable packaging solutions.
During his stint at Australia’s Modus Brewing, Mr. Thiemann spearheaded several technological breakthroughs, including pioneering processes for non-alcoholic beer production and implementing artificial intelligence in beer development. This combination of technical expertise and strategic marketing experience positions him to advance Anuga FoodTec’s market presence.
The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for the food technology sector, which is increasingly focused on sustainability and digital innovation. Mr. Schlüter, who led Anuga FoodTec for 14 of his 24 years at Koelnmesse, will depart at the end of 2024.
The appointment underscores Koelnmesse’s commitment to maintaining Anuga FoodTec’s position as the industry’s premier technology showcase, which draws thousands of exhibitors and visitors to Cologne biennially.
