The world’s food supply faces significant challenges due to environmental degradation and economic instability.
The upcoming BIOFACH 2025 congress, scheduled for February 11-14 in Nuremberg, will showcase how the organic food industry can address these issues and explore potential growth strategies for the sector.
BIOFACH 2025’s congress theme, “Yes, we do!”, emphasizes the organic sector’s practical leadership in the food industry, demonstrating its commitment and conviction. The event encourages participation through a “Call for Ideas” for topic submissions. Recent research from the German Retail Federation’s “Consumer Monitor Sustainability 2024” reveals a knowledge gap, with one-third of respondents unaware of food’s environmental impact.
Ravi R. Prasad, Executive Director of IFOAM Organics International, states: “In the face of global crises like climate change and food insecurity, the organic sector offers viable solutions. Ecological practices provide not just an alternative, but a proven path to global resilience and sustainability.”
Tina Andres, Chair of the German Federation of Organic Food Producers (BÖLW), adds: “Organic methods have vast potential for creating independent, sustainable, and future-ready food systems, which are currently under immense pressure. All stakeholders in the ecological value chain must adapt and strengthen their responses and demands to society and policymakers. The 2025 congress theme invites collaborative efforts to develop effective change policies. Key focus areas include green finance, institutional food services, and communication strategies.”
