Norway’s seafood industry achieved its best August on record, with exports valued at NOK 14.6 billion, marking a 5% increase (NOK 724 million) from the previous year, according to Christian Chramer, CEO of the Norwegian Seafood Council.
However, Chramer noted that while the weak exchange rate boosted export figures in Norwegian kroner, many seafood companies face rising costs that may not align with revenues.
Despite the record-breaking month, Seafood Analyst Paul Aandahl cautioned about uncertain market trends, noting that lower import prices in 2024 haven’t been offset by corresponding volume growth in key markets like the USA, China, and Thailand.
Trout has become the second-largest species in Norwegian seafood exports, accounting for 5.3% of the export value in August.
