The U.S. is celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 21. President Ronald Reagan declared July to be National Ice Cream Month back in 1984, and the third Sunday of every July to be National Ice Cream Day.
To celebrate this event, the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) announced the Summer Favorite Ice Cream & Novelties promotion which includes special deals on ice cream and novelties in local supermarkets throughout July.
On top of that, NFRA shared some historical and interesting facts about ice cream. Here are a few examples:
- The popsicle was invented by accident in 1905 by an 11-year-old named Frank Epperson. Cherry is the most popular popsicle flavor.
- It takes 12 gallons of milk to make just one gallon of ice cream.
- The world’s most popular ice cream topping is chocolate syrup
- Gelato is about 15-degrees warmer than ice cream. The warmer temperature means consumers taste the flavors even more intensely.
Those interested in trying something new to celebrate Ice Cream day properly might want to Belgian company Lotus Bakery just launched a new line of ice cream in the U.S., which contains crunchy Biscoff cookies and original cookie butter.
