Seafood Expo Global has recognized Vichiunai Group of Belgium and Kingfish Zeeland BV of the Netherlands with the 2019 Seafood Excellence Global awards for some of the best products showcased during the trade show.
The top award for Best Retail Product went to the Vichiunai Group for its Surimi Noodles Wok Style, a convenient meal in its own lunch box filled with surimi noodles, Chinese vegetables, and a Korean glaze sauce. The noodles are made from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified Alaska pollock, Pacific whiting or hoki surimi. According to the judges, the product aligns itself with today’s most notable seafood market trends, including high protein/low carbohydrate and gluten-free diets, clean label surimi seafood, sustainability certifications, and ready meals on the go.
Kingfish Zeeland BV won the grand prize for Best HORECA (foodservice) Product with its Dutch Yellowtail. Also known as hiramasa or kingfish, the product is farmed using a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) without antibiotics and has certifications from both the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). The premium fish can be served raw in sashimi and sushi, or grilled or smoked as a sustainable alternative to tuna and swordfish.
In addition to the two prizes, the judges also offered four additional awards including:
- The Seafood Excellence Global special award for Health & Nutrition went to GlobeXplore – Algae of France for its Guacamole with Fresh Spirulina.
- The Seafood Excellence Global special prize for Convenience went to Golden Fresh Sdn Bhd of Malaysia for its Prawn in Hor Mok Thai Coconut Sauce.
