UK supermarket chain Iceland has recently unveiled plans to open two new large The Food Warehouse supermarkets in Suffolk, reports Ispwichstar.
In a bid to trump competitors like Aldi and Lidl, Iceland will be expanding the range of its cash-and-carry-type stores. The Food Warehouse is an arm of Iceland which specializes in low cost bulk buys.
Iceland already has a presence through its self-branded stores in Ipswich, Sudbury, Felixstowe, Bury Saint Edmunds, Harwich and Haverhill. At the moment, the only A Food Warehouse supermarket available in Suffolk is located in Lowestoft, at the North Quay Retail Park.
But Iceland representative said the company will soon open two Food Warehouse stores in the county. Both will be built in Ipswich, one at Euro Retail Park, which will be ready in June, and the other at Suffolk Retail Park.
The move comes after direct competitors Sainsbury and Lidl have announced plans to open a host of new stores in the region.
Iceland has more than 70 Food Warehouse stores spread across the nation, and the new additions will help the supermarket chain strengthen its grip on the bulk sales category.
